Screen Printing – Silkscreen
If you have not heard of the term “Serigrafia,” you must surely know the other name by which this technique has popularly known: Silk Screen. Screen printing is one of the best-known methods when it comes to stamping. This technique uses individual screens, with the specific cutout for each design you print on the shirt.
It has been placed on a board, and then the pigment is spread over the surface. The process takes longer because a different canvas is needed for each color present in print.
Benefits
The advantage is that the material has excellent quality and strength. The print can also be made using bright, metallic, or fluorescent tones, either light or dark fabrics.
For example: is the illustration you want to print composed of five colors? Therefore, it will take five screens to do the job. The good news is that We can reuse the filters later.
For printing, the inks are all water-based, and we can apply the process to various types of materials and fabric, such as paper, rubber, wood, and glass.
Disadvantages
Despite its incredible benefits, screen printing can have some drawbacks, depending on your needs. As stated in the post, the process takes longer and is not suitable for prints with many colors.
And if you want a print-rich in detail, screen printing is not the best option. Also, the print screen can become very thick, impairing the quality of the part that will produce.
Sublimation
Following the same line as Transfer, Sublimation can transfer any figure to the fabric.
The difference is that this stamping technique does not use screens; it is printed on a specific paper with sublimated ink. Then, together with the T-shirt, the image is pressed at high temperature, causing the pigment to penetrate the fabric’s fiber.
Benefits
Sublimation offers an impression rich in detail. This option makes this very suitable for those who want to print photographs or intricate illustrations.
Sublimation is also an agile method; print the matrix with the unique ink and put it in the press. In a few minutes, you will be able to stamp a piece. Another advantage is the value, which is practically the same for those who want to stamp many or few units.
Disadvantages
When it comes to t-shirt printing, sublimation is still a minimal option. The reason is simple: this method must have been done on fabrics with at least 80% polyester.
Since there is no white sublimation ink, the method cannot be applied to dark surfaces, such as black T-shirts. Remember to consider each technique’s advantages and disadvantages and your needs to make the right choice between sublimation and Serigraphy.
